Running an uninstall utility can make removing a program much easier.

If you downloaded a disk image to install the software, sometimes you'll find an uninstaller there. If your program has an uninstall utility associated with it, it may have been installed with the program or included on the disk that came with it.
The first step in removing them is to check the program's documentation to see if there is an uninstall utility. When installed, these programs create files in several locations, often in the System Folder. įor some other programs, removal is more complicated. You should see an option that says, "show package contents." Uninstalling applications downloaded from the Mac App Store is even easier - just delete the application from the Applications Folder and its accompanying folder in User\Library\Containers. In Mac talk, apps like this are "bundled." To see the files in an application's bundle, click on its icon while holding down the Control key. When files for the application you want to delete are all stored in one location, dragging the icon to the Trash will take care of most of the work. Remember, these preference files contain customizations you’ve made for things like toolbars, keyboard shortcuts, and custom dictionaries. Select all the files (you can hold “Shift” to select a range of files) that start with “ com.microsoft” and drag them to the trash. It’s probably a good idea to change your view in Finder to a list. Navigate to the “Preferences” and arrange everything by Name. Click “Go,” hold the “Option” key, and click “Library.” To remove the preferences, open the Library in your Home folder. One of the best ways to navigate your way through the Finder, is to use the Go menu. Once you remove the application files, it’s time to start removing all the little files spread throughout your system. Removing the Preferences, Subscription File, and License If you want it all gone, roll up your sleeves and get to it. You could simply stop here Office would be basically uninstalled, but as we said before, there’s a lot of little files that Office writes all over you drive. It takes a few minutes and is entirely automated. Speaking of Windows, uninstalling Office on it is a simple matter of opening Programs & Features from the Control Panel and removing the application there.

Office 2016 for Mac better resembles the Windows version, which will likely please switchers. The new version of Office by contrast is clean and much more Office-looking. Yes, it gets the job done but the interface is a mess and downright ugly. It’s just never felt like a real OS X application, or even a decent version of Office. It’s no great mystery why we’d want to uninstall Office 2011.
